The Labour Party (LP) declared on Sunday its strategic efforts to secure the governorship seat in the 2024 Edo election, aiming for a repositioning of the party. Mr. Obiora Ifoh, the National Publicity Secretary, conveyed this message in a statement released in Abuja.

Ifoh highlighted the initiation of a capacity-building program by the Edo branch of the party, focusing on enhancing the skills and effectiveness of wards and local government executives. The objective is to fortify and reshape the party for success in the upcoming election. During a training session, Mr. Julius Abure, the National Chairman of the Labour Party, expressed confidence in the party’s ability to rescue both the nation and Edo State from inadequate governance.

Abure emphasized the significance of the program, stating, “The intention of the programme is to build the capacity of our local governments and ward executives in terms of what they are expected to do during an election.” He underscored the belief that elections are primarily determined at the ward or local government levels based on the actions of party members.

The National Chairman stressed the party’s commitment to addressing socio-economic challenges at the state and national levels. Abure asserted that the Labour Party possesses the ideology required to transform the country and confront issues such as infrastructure decay, poverty, hunger, and unemployment.

Edo State, according to Abure, anticipates the Labour Party to provide a viable candidate capable of safeguarding the votes of the electorate. He outlined the primary goal in Edo as winning the election with a qualified candidate possessing the capacity to emerge victorious.

Abure revealed that similar training programs would be conducted in other senatorial districts, underscoring the party’s dedication to gearing up for success in the 2024 elections. He reiterated the party’s belief that it stands as the sole political entity with the solutions to the socio-economic challenges facing both the state and the nation.
