According to Dele Oyewale, the spokesperson for the EFCC, the conviction on October 7, 2022, was based on De-Stefani’s use of false documents and counterfeit seals to falsely claim ownership of a property. This property, located at 14 A&B Warring Road (formerly Bayo Kuku Road), Ikoyi, Lagos, belonged to Waterside Properties Limited, constituting an offense under Section 366 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.
Justice Dada, in delivering the verdict, sentenced De-Stefani to three years in prison and ordered the release of the property to Waterside Properties Limited within three weeks. However, the convicted individual was re-arrested on December 19, 2023, for refusing to vacate the property as mandated by the court.
In response to her non-compliance, the EFCC issued a notice to De-Stefani, instructing her to vacate the property within seven days or face legal consequences. It’s worth noting that De-Stefani, along with Stella Ndubusi Ogboju, was initially arraigned on March 30, 2019, facing charges related to forgery and the misappropriation of a property belonging to Waterside Properties Limited. The charges were later amended to six counts, with one of them accusing De-Stefani of dishonestly converting the property for personal use in 2015 within the Ikeja judicial division.
