A statement released to Vanguard highlighted the multifaceted topics discussed during the event, emphasizing the urgency of innovative solutions to improve family planning accessibility. Security protocols were a key focus, underscoring the importance of safeguarding sensitive information in the realm of family planning.
Mr. Lawrence Anyanwu, representing the Federal Ministry of Health, expressed a robust commitment to scaling up family planning efforts in Nigeria. He set a target of achieving a modern contraceptive prevalence rate of 27% by 2030 and stressed the significance of private sector engagement, especially in the social marketing sector of family planning. Plans were revealed to host a family planning summit with the private sector in the second quarter of the upcoming year.
The event highlighted the indispensable role of the private sector in social marketing, particularly in the family planning sector. Additionally, the engagement of youth in family planning efforts was recognized as a vital aspect, acknowledging the importance of involving the younger generation in the discourse and implementation of family planning initiatives.
Dr. Gertrude, a representative of USAID, expressed support for the government’s efforts toward a total market approach to family planning. She emphasized USAID’s commitment to private sector engagement as a strategic approach for greater scale, sustainability, and effectiveness of development outcomes.

Lewu highlighted Kiakia Health’s user-friendly accessibility, offering vital information and services discreetly through a web app, social media platforms, or convenient telehealth services. The veiled clinics provide safe, private spaces for in-person care, preventing unwanted pregnancies, and safeguarding against the spread of HIV.
In conclusion, the Federal Ministry of Health and UNFPA are committed to implementing innovative family planning strategies and constructing a robust collaborative framework to address global challenges in promoting family planning. The upcoming family planning summit with the private sector signals a proactive step toward achieving tangible progress in family planning initiatives.
