A viral photo circulated on social media depicting Pastor Adeboye seated on a royal chair, sparking criticism against the monarch for allowing such an act. In response, Oba Francis Alao, who also serves as the Deputy Chairman of the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs, issued a personal statement to address the situation and extend Christmas greetings to Christians nationwide.
The monarch emphasized that Pastor Adeboye’s visit was for an evangelism program held on the Olugbon High School playground. The G.O of RCCG arrived via helicopter, and the monarch welcomed him to his living room before proceeding to the program venue, where they discussed Nigeria and Orile-Igbon. Oba Francis Alao joined Pastor Adeboye at the venue to show support for the program, during which the revered priest prayed for the town and its attendees.
To clarify the chair incident, Oba Francis Alao stated that he offered one of the ceremonial royal chairs reserved for top dignitaries to Pastor Adeboye as a mark of honor. He emphasized that the chair provided was not the specific one reserved for the Olugbon, which holds spiritual and historical significance and cannot be shared. The royal chairs, he explained, are meant to honor high-ranking dignitaries and not to desecrate the throne.
The monarch sought understanding from those expressing concerns, underlining the distinction between the ceremonial chairs for important persons and the sacred throne reserved for the Olugbon. He reiterated the sanctity of the ancient town’s throne of Orile-Igbon.
Shifting focus to the Christmas celebration, Oba Francis Alao extended felicitations to Christians worldwide, urging followers of Christ in Nigeria to use the occasion to reflect on God’s blessings and the grace of being alive for another Christmas. He encouraged a commitment to living a life reflective of Christ’s virtues, emphasizing righteousness, honesty, and the expression of love to others irrespective of their faith and cultural beliefs.
