Former Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties and Strategy to the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State, Doyin Odebowale, has outlined the reasons behind his decision not to collaborate with the newly inaugurated governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa….CONTINUE READING
Odebowale, who had a professional association with Akeredolu spanning three decades, clarified that he cannot replicate the same level of dedication and loyalty to Aiyedatiwa. He and other key aides to the late Akeredolu tendered their resignations following the governor’s demise.
Speaking to journalists in Akure, Odebowale reminisced about his role in persuading Akeredolu to run in the 2018 gubernatorial election. He emphasized the personal nature of his decision, citing the deep connection and support he received from Akeredolu throughout their lengthy collaboration.”I have worked with Akeredolu for 30 years. I was the last person who convinced him to contest the previous election. I wrote all his campaign content. It is more of a personal reason for me. I have nothing against whoever is in office now,” Odebowale stated.
He went on to explain that his departure is not politically motivated but stems from a sense of closure since the person who brought him into the position, Akeredolu, is no longer present. Odebowale expressed that without Akeredolu’s support, he cannot maintain the same level of commitment, describing their relationship as akin to family.
“I can’t remain in that space and pretend. I can’t be as committed as I was with Akeredolu because I got all his support. It was not political. He gave me the wings to fly. He was my brother, like a family,” he concluded.
