The University of Ilorin, Kwara State, has categorically refuted claims that fake professors are employed within its ranks, dismissing a list circulating in the media as unknown to the institution. In a press release issued on Sunday and signed by Mr. Kunle Akogun, the Director of Corporate Affairs, the university clarified that none of the individuals listed as fake professors were associated with the institution. Despite the National Universities Commission (NUC) distancing itself from the list in December 2019, the university felt it necessary to disown the 11 names linked to it in the recently resurfaced report. The university’s management expressed the need for clarification to reassure stakeholders of the institution’s commitment to high integrity and adherence to global best practices, particularly in matters related to staff promotions. The reputation of the University of Ilorin, known for its strict adherence to ethical standards, was deemed unblemished and beyond compromise. The statement dismissed the circulating report as an attempt by purveyors of fake news and mischief-makers, urging the public to disregard such information.

Meanwhile, the National Universities Commission also disclaimed the list of fake professors circulating in the media, stating that it could not have originated from the regulatory body without proper consultation with accredited universities. Dr. Noel Abiodun Saliu, the Deputy Executive Secretary in Charge of Academic Directorate, labeled the information as mischievous and unfounded. He asserted that the publication was the work of mischief-makers aiming to tarnish the hard-earned reputation of the prestigious institutions mentioned in the list.
