The ill-fated experiment involved four individuals who decided to combine various fruits and roots, specifically Gegemu and Roots, to create a herbal mixture (agbo) in an attempt to experience a heightened state. Regrettably, the outcome proved fatal for a 62-year-old man known as Okiribo and a 45-year-old named Samuel Omo-Folorunsho. Simultaneously, two others, Shola Pempe and another youth, were admitted to ECWA hospital, Makutu, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria.

Oba Moses Etombi, the traditional ruler known as the Agbana of Isanlu, confirmed the incident and expressed deep sorrow, describing it as “tragic” and “very unfortunate.” The community was thrown into mourning, and the ruler expressed disbelief that the herbs, traditionally used for treating ailments like piles, could lead to such untimely deaths. Oba Moses Etombi revealed that the individuals had consumed more than two liters of the herbal concoction, severely affecting their health.

The Kogi Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Williams Ovye-Aya, also verified the incident, urging youths to exercise caution and avoid the consumption of harmful substances. The officer emphasized the importance of steering clear of drugs to prevent similar tragedies.
