The much-anticipated match, eagerly awaited by fans of both nations, took a solemn turn as reports emerged of fatal incidents during the game.

According to reports, the fatalities occurred when South Africa was awarded a penalty kick against Nigeria towards the end of the game. Additionally, another tragic incident transpired during the penalty shoot-outs, resulting in the loss of no fewer than four Nigerian lives.

Among the deceased are Samuel, a serving member of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC), who reportedly collapsed and passed away at a viewing center in Adamawa. Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, a former member of the House of Representatives representing Ika federal constituency of Delta State, also tragically lost his life while watching the game. Alhaji Ayuba Abdullahi, a deputy bursar of Kwara State University (KWASU), similarly succumbed while witnessing the high-tension encounter.

Another casualty, Mikail Osundiji, a sales representative in Ogun State, was reported to have perished during the tense match.

Furthermore, unconfirmed reports suggest that Anambra-born billionaire Chief Osondu Nwoye, residing in Ivory Coast, also tragically passed away while watching Wednesday’s AFCON semi-final match between his home country and South Africa.
