His decision to do this has sparked controversy amongst Nigerians in the country especially due to the fact he eliminated the fuel subsidy regime that benefited the poor and enriched the elites in a corruptive manner.

Take a look at some of the reactions from Netizens below:

Mindin Biz: “Should the government still be paying for pilgrimage with all these economic woes befalling our dear country? Pilgrimage is supposed to be a religious tourism of some sort. What is the economic importance of pilgrimage that the government will be spending millions of money to send people to? I’m asking.”

Frankly: “Nigeria needs to shed unnecessary weight. Sponsoring Hajj is an economic waste Stop it now!.”

Diamond: “Tinubu/APC is a curse to Nigeria like seriously Hajj subsidy and not fuel or Food subsidy?? Misplaced priorities.”

Royz: “You remove subsidy on fuel in a country that has the most people living in poverty, thereby making their lives worse. Yet you want to subsidize a 5million naira trip for people that can afford it. May the Wrath of Allah be upon you.”
