Rear Adm. John Okeke, the newly appointed commander of OPDS, disclosed this development after assuming duty.
These clandestine operations were uncovered following diligent surveillance and intelligence-gathering efforts by the security forces. The refineries were located predominantly on Ataba Island, near Bonny Island, within the Rivers State jurisdiction.
Rear Adm. Okeke, during his visit to the area, emphasized the significance of collaboration among various security agencies in combating such illicit activities. He underscored the importance of teamwork in achieving success in the fight against illegal bunkering and pipeline vandalism.
Although no arrests were made during the operation, Rear Adm. Okeke assured the public that the Joint Task Force, in collaboration with other security agencies including the Navy, Army, Air Force, Police, NSCDS, and DIA, among others, would intensify efforts to eradicate such criminal activities.
The commander reiterated the commitment of OPDS to maintaining surveillance and dismantling illegal refining sites to curb economic sabotage in the region. He expressed gratitude for the swift action taken by the task force, demonstrating their dedication to duty within a short timeframe since assuming command.
