Sowore shared his insights with journalists following a trumped-up treason trial at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday, where he faced charges brought against him by the Nigerian government for leading a revolutionary protest back in 2019. Remarkably, the government discontinued the case on Friday morning, leading to its dismissal.
The former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) reflected on his earlier predictions, noting that as economic conditions worsened under the Tinubu administration, more Nigerians would be compelled to join his call for a revolution. True to his forecast, citizens are grappling with the consequences of disastrous policies implemented by the current government.
Sowore emphasized the potent catalyst for revolutionary fervor: hunger. He underscored that the prevailing hunger and economic distress in Nigeria are fostering a fertile ground for dissent. With widespread food insecurity, escalating insecurity, rampant kidnapping, and a devalued currency, the average Nigerian is grappling with severe challenges.
In his scathing critique, Sowore lambasted the Tinubu-led administration for its apparent disregard for the welfare of citizens, accusing it of prioritizing self-interest and the enrichment of cronies over the well-being of the populace. He lamented the erosion of livelihoods, the exodus of businesses, and the pervasive despair gripping the nation.
In conclusion, Sowore warned that the “Emilokan” supporters, who once championed Tinubu’s ascendancy, now find themselves mired in suffering, hunger, and despair. He affirmed that the revolution they sought to evade is now knocking at their doorsteps, driven by the intolerable conditions orchestrated by the current administration.
