Addressing his supporters in Oyo State, the activist claimed that his campaign against the killing of farmers by Fulani herders in the Southwest was the reason behind the alleged assassination plot. Igboho emphasized that he was targeted because of his stance that Yorubas should not be subjugated by Fulanis and that they have the right to farm freely in their ancestral land.

In his words, Igboho stated, “Buhari sent his soldiers and DSS to arrest me in my house because I said Yorubas are not slaves to Fulanis; they can’t suppress us in our father’s land. Fulanis can’t stop our fathers and mothers from going to their farms. But, I’m back with the power of God and authority, not that of man.”

The freedom fighter returned to Nigeria in advance of his mother’s burial in the Saki area of Oyo State. Igboho had been residing outside Nigeria since 2021 when he fled to Benin Republic after being declared wanted by the DSS. Following a raid by the DSS on his residence in Oyo State, Igboho managed to escape. The security agency had issued a warrant for his arrest due to his advocacy for the Yoruba Nation and his alleged involvement in attacks against Fulani herders accused of killing farmers in the Southwest.

While in Benin Republic, Igboho was arrested and detained while attempting to travel to Germany. After spending two years in a Beninoise prison, he recently regained his freedom.
