In a recent interview with BET, Fireboy emphasized his contribution to the Afrobeats scene, asserting that he introduced a new sub-genre characterized by deeper lyrical content.
He elaborated, stating, “Before my arrival, Afrobeats was primarily about vibes. However, I recognized a significant absence of profound soul and lyricism in our music. This realization prompted me to carve out my own niche within the genre. I call it Afro-Life—it’s Afrobeats with substance.”
