In a letter addressed to the FG and dated February 29, 2024, the NLC refuted the federal government’s assertion that it had fulfilled 80% of the agreement reached on October 2, 2023.

The letter, signed by NLC’s Acting General Secretary, Ismail Bello, criticized the FG’s resort to propaganda and misinformation, emphasizing that such tactics only exacerbate unrest among citizens.

Entitled “Has the government truly implemented the October 2, 2023, agreement,” the letter outlined concerns regarding the agreement’s implementation.

“We write to bring to your attention our concerns regarding the implementation of the October 2, 2023, agreement. Your statement suggesting that the government has fulfilled 80 per cent of the said agreement has raised a lot of worries among our members,” the letter stated.

“Upon careful examination of the 15 points outlined in the October 2, 2023, agreement, it is evident that most of them have not been fully met,” it continued.

The letter highlighted various areas where the government had fallen short, including delays in wage payments, unfulfilled promises regarding refinery production, failure to execute cash transfers to poor households, and non-implementation of tax waivers.

The NLC urged the FG to expedite the implementation process before the March 13, 2024, deadline to avert the planned strike and restore trust between the government and the Nigerian people.
