Welcomed by high-ranking government officials including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, and others, Tinubu’s visit included a tour of Qatar’s National Museum on the first day. During the visit, he emphasized the significance of accurately documenting a nation’s history, cultural evolution, and challenges.
The subsequent day saw Tinubu, alongside the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, overseeing the signing of seven crucial agreements between the two nations. These agreements covered areas such as education, employment regulation, business council establishment, youth and sports cooperation, tourism, business events, and the fight against illicit drug trade.
The signing ceremony, conducted by Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Tuggar and Qatari officials, solidified the commitment to strengthen ties between both countries. Following the formalities, Tinubu chaired the Nigeria-Qatar Business and Investment Forum. During this event, he urged Qatari business leaders to report any instances of bribery by Nigerian officials and emphasized Nigeria’s commitment to eliminating bureaucratic hurdles and corruption to foster a conducive business environment.
Tinubu assured the international business community that Nigeria is prepared for serious business and vowed to decisively address any entrenched interests undermining investor confidence in the country. He pledged to remove obstacles hindering profitable and legitimate enterprises, emphasizing Nigeria’s determination to revolutionize investment promotion and inviting international collaboration without letting perceptions become a hindrance.
