No Harm To Innocent Residents: Delta Governor Condemns Soldier Deaths, Promises Protection
Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has assured the public that innocent residents will be shielded from the consequences of the tragic loss of military personnel during official duties in Okuama.
The governor’s commitment came following a comprehensive discussion with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, aimed at addressing concerns regarding potential military reprisals against local communities.
Recalling recent events where approximately 16 military officials lost their lives during a rescue mission amid clashes between the Okuama and Okoloba communities, there emerged apprehensions about retaliatory actions by the military.
Governor Oborevwori, recognizing the gravity of the situation, sought national-level intervention to prevent further escalation.
In a briefing with State House correspondents, Governor Oborevwori conveyed President Tinubu’s endorsement of peaceful resolution and their joint condemnation of the violence that resulted in the soldiers’ deaths.
“The incidents of loss of lives and property have occurred; now, what is the way forward? There are two approaches. Firstly, we must ensure the families of the fallen officers and soldiers receive adequate support and a dignified burial,” Governor Oborevwori emphasized, highlighting the dual strategy to address the crisis.
