Breaking News: Akpabio Questions Nationality Of Alleged Killers Of 16 Soldiers....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Senate President Godswill Akpabio suggested on Tuesday that the perpetrators behind the killing of soldiers in Delta State might be foreigners, potentially mercenaries. The attack occurred on March 14, when armed individuals ambushed and killed 15 Nigerian Army personnel during a peace mission to Okuama Community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.
Speaking during a debate on merged motions by Senators Abdulaziz Yar’Adua and Edeh Dafinone, Akpabio expressed his belief that the assailants were not indigenous to the Niger Delta region. He speculated that they could be mercenaries rather than locals, emphasizing that Nigeria is not currently at war.
In response to the incident, the Senate ordered an investigation into the killings, directing its Committee on Defence, Army, Navy, and Air Force to collaborate with military authorities to ascertain the underlying causes of what it termed a “dastardly act.”
Furthermore, the Senate urged the Federal Government to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice. A minute of silence was observed in honor of the slain soldiers, and the Senate called for the immediate compensation of their families. Additionally, it advocated for the recruitment of more policemen to prevent the military from being involved in civilian matters.
However, the Senate declined to observe a minute of silence or extend condolences to the families of civilians killed during the incident, citing uncertainty about the exact number of civilian casualties. It also rejected a plea for relief materials for the affected community from the National Emergency Management Agency.
