Akpabio Calls On IPU To Address Gaza-Israeli Conflict
Godswill Akpabio, Nigeria’s Senate president, has implored the International Parliamentary Union (IPU) to play a decisive role in fostering enduring peace in conflict-ridden Gaza.
During his address at the ongoing 148th Session of the IPU Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland, Akpabio emphasized the urgency of transcending national biases to prioritize humanitarian concerns and work towards sustainable peace in the region.
Highlighting key resolutions, Akpabio stressed the importance of facilitating access to humanitarian aid and restoring normalcy in Gaza, alongside convening discussions for a permanent ceasefire.
In his statement, Akpabio underscored the imperative for collective action, irrespective of national affiliations, to address the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza. He urged fellow delegates to prioritize humanity over ego, emphasizing the critical need for a comprehensive resolution that addresses the cessation of hostilities, humanitarian aid access, and the release of hostages and prisoners of war.
Akpabio’s impassioned plea resonated with the assembly, urging for unity in drafting resolutions that prioritize the welfare of those affected by the conflict. He emphasized the need for inclusive dialogue and cooperation to ensure a substantive outcome that reflects the shared commitment of the international community towards peace and stability in Gaza.
