According to Davido, the project’s lack of success stemmed from a disconnect between his artistic vision and the direction imposed by the label. Despite working with top-tier producers facilitated by Sony, Davido found himself stifled creatively and yearning for more autonomy.

Reflecting on the experience, Davido admitted to spending a year in Atlanta, only to return to Nigeria disheartened by the lackluster reception of his music under Sony. However, he found solace in reconnecting with his original producers who understood his sound, leading to the creation of his smash hit single, “IF.”

“When I first came, they put me with some producers, but it didn’t work out, we dropped an EP under Sony, my first project; ‘failure, failure’ to my standards,” Davido candidly expressed.
