Labour Party Releases Details Of National Convention Agenda

The Labour Party (LP) has announced a revised timetable for its forthcoming national convention, shifting the event’s location to Nnewi, Anambra State. Initially planned for March 27, 2024, at the International Conference Centre in Umuahia, Abia State, concerns over potential disruptions prompted the relocation.

In a letter addressed to Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), LP’s National Chairman Julius Abure and Secretary Umar Ibrahim explained the change in venue, citing unavailability of the original location. The party emphasized the importance of INEC’s presence to monitor the convention.

A senior LP official revealed concerns about disruptions in Abuja and logistical challenges for the national Chairman’s re-election bid, prompting the shift to Anambra. While some attributed the move to homage to Peter Obi, the LP’s 2023 presidential candidate, LP’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, clarified that the relocation wasn’t driven by fear of disruption.

This adjustment marks the second alteration in the convention’s location, initially slated for Benin City, Edo State, before relocating to Umuahia, Abia State, and now, Nnewi, Anambra State.
