Gov Yusuf Offers Explanation For Appointing Kwankwaso’s Son As Commissioner
Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has elucidated the reasoning behind appointing Mustapha Kwankwaso, the son of former Governor of Kano State and National Leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to his cabinet. The appointment of Kwankwaso’s son, among three others, as commissioners in the state was reported by Naija News.
The Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Jibril Falgore, confirmed the reception of the executive list during a plenary session on Tuesday, announcing that the screening of the commissioner nominees would commence early next week, marking the next formal step in their appointments.
Addressing the reactions following this development, Governor Yusuf issued a statement titled “In Defence of Mustapha Kwankwaso’s Appointment,” through the Director-General, Media and Publicity, Kano Government House, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa. Yusuf clarified that Mustapha’s appointment was not a form of payback, but rather a recognition of his capabilities and contributions to the success of the present administration in Kano.
The statement emphasized Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s track record of empowering numerous young individuals, regardless of their background, and creating political opportunities for them at various levels of government. Governor Yusuf reiterated the commitment to empowering youths and allowing them to harness their potential, asserting that Mustapha’s lineage should not impede his political career but rather be a source of inspiration, given his decision to follow in his father’s footsteps.
The appointment of Mustapha Kwankwaso reflects the administration’s dedication to meritocracy and youth empowerment, ensuring that capable individuals are given opportunities to contribute to the state’s development.
