NIMC Gives Update On Its New Multi-Purpose Card....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has outlined the benefits of its new national identity card initiative for Nigerians, emphasizing its role in advancing financial inclusion and enhancing access to social services.

Despite initial criticisms questioning the necessity and resource allocation for the new card amidst challenges with the current National Identity Number (NIN) database, NIMC’s Head of Corporate Communications, Kayode Adegoke, defended the project. He described the new ID card as a singular, convenient, and versatile General Multipurpose Card (GMPC), eliminating the need for multiple cards.

Adegoke assured a seamless process for obtaining the card, highlighting its diverse applications including financial transactions, government services, and travel. Collaborating with the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Nigerian Interbank Settlement System, NIMC aims to integrate payment and financial functionalities into the card through the AFRIGO card scheme powered by NIBSS.

Applicants will need to request the card using their NIN through the self-service online portal, NIMC offices, or affiliated banks. The issuance process will align with existing protocols for debit/credit cards, with applicants collecting the card from designated centers or opting for delivery at an additional cost.
