BREAKING NEWS: Tinubu And VP Shettima Set To Pay Airport Tollgate Fees....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima will now be subject to tollgate fees when utilizing airports in Nigeria, marking a shift in policy by the Federal Executive Council (FEC). The council, in a recent decision, has eliminated exemptions previously granted to airport users from paying these fees.
This decision came about after the FEC approved a memorandum presented by the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo. Keyamo highlighted that the government was experiencing a significant loss of revenue, estimated at over 82%, due to the exemption of airport users from tollgate fees, facilitated through e-tags.
Originally, the memorandum proposed exempting only the president and vice president from these fees. However, it was President Tinubu who intervened, insisting that both he and Vice President Shettima should be included in the list of individuals required to pay.
During a post-FEC media briefing, Minister Keyamo expressed disappointment that affluent individuals, particularly Very Important Persons (VIPs), had been evading these fees while only the less privileged were being charged. He emphasized the need to rectify this imbalance, signaling an end to the practice of exempting certain segments of society from tollgate fees.
Meanwhile, amidst these developments, some residents of Borno State have voiced their displeasure over the absence of suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, at his mother’s burial. Kyari’s non-attendance at the funeral has sparked criticism and raised eyebrows among locals.
