APC Responds: Obasanjo’s Comments On Tinubu’s Policies Show Signs Of Senility

Obasanjo had criticized President Tinubu’s handling of the removal of subsidies from petroleum products and the floating of the naira, stating that while the policies were necessary, they were poorly implemented.

In response, APC National Director Bala Ibrahim, in an interview with Punch, dismissed Obasanjo’s critique as the ranting of a serial critic. Ibrahim suggested that Obasanjo’s behavior might be indicative of senility.

He said, “As a Nigerian who respects Obasanjo, I think he is beginning to show signs of senility. Ever since he failed to secure a third term in office, he has consistently criticized subsequent administrations. He sees himself as the only leader who truly means well for Nigeria from independence to date, which is not a healthy attitude for a statesman. No one has a monopoly on knowledge or leadership style.”

Ibrahim pointed out that Obasanjo has a history of criticizing every leadership except his own, noting that President Tinubu is just the latest in a line of leaders, including Buhari and Jonathan, who have faced Obasanjo’s censure. He added that Obasanjo’s own tenure was marked by economic challenges, questioning the former president’s authority to criticize efforts to improve the economy.

“I am not a spokesperson for Tinubu, but it is clear that Obasanjo has consistently erred in his judgments,” Ibrahim concluded
