According to Peter Afunanya, spokesperson for the security agency, these protests are allegedly intended to achieve undisclosed aims which coincide with the national event.

“While citizens have the rights to assemble and express themselves, these freedoms must not jeopardize public safety and national security,” Afunanya emphasized.

The DSS expressed strong disapproval of non-state actors seeking to incite public discontent through potentially violent demonstrations, asserting a firm stance against such actions.

The statement reads in part:

“It is important to note that violent protests contradict the federal government’s peaceful approach to addressing all grievances, including issues such as the minimum wage. Citizens are urged to reject any encouragement towards lawlessness, disorder, or anarchy. Dissatisfied individuals are advised to use appropriate channels and procedures to address their concerns.”

Therefore, the DSS reiterates its unwavering commitment to safeguarding the country against activities that could lead to lawlessness. The agency pledges continued collaboration with relevant stakeholders, including other security agencies, to maintain peace and ensure the safety of lives and property nationwide. Law-abiding citizens are encouraged to continue their daily activities without fear.
