The United States Mission in Nigeria has condemned the killing of Reverend Father Sylvester Okechukwu, a Catholic priest from Kaduna, describing it as a brutal and senseless act.
Okechukwu was reportedly abducted from his home by suspected bandits on Tuesday night, and his lifeless body was discovered the following day. He had been serving at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tachiri, within the Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Two days after his tragic death, the U.S. Mission called on the Nigerian government to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
In a brief statement, the U.S. Mission expressed: “We are deeply distressed by the brutal and senseless killing of Reverend Father Sylvester Okechukwu in Kaduna State, Nigeria. We strongly condemn this horrific act of violence.”
The Mission also extended condolences, offering sympathy to Father Okechukwu’s family, congregation, and community, acknowledging the immense loss they have endured.
