This explosion not only caused extensive property damage but also instilled widespread panic, with its sound reverberating throughout Ibadan, the state capital. In a press statement from Kayode Babayomi, the Oyo State AAC chairman, the party expressed concern over the governor’s failure to provide the report nine months after the incident, questioning the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability.

The statement read: “The African Action Congress, Oyo State chapter, urges Governor Makinde to publicly report on the Bodija bomb explosion and outline how he has assisted the affected residents. The blast devastated numerous properties and caused panic among residents near the Bodija area, with the sound echoing across Ibadan on January 21, 2024.

“We demand a comprehensive account of this incident. What caused it? Who was involved? What type of explosive devices were present in the building?

“The governor had promised a thorough investigation, yet nine months later, we have seen no updates, no arrests for the destruction, and no charges filed for terrorism. A serious government should have determined the cause and circumstances of this incident within a month.

“To date, it seems the Oyo State government either lacks clarity on the real cause of the explosion or is attempting to cover up for the culprits. Instead, Governor Makinde has opted to send his Special Adviser on Security to make political statements on radio and television, defending the government’s inaction.

“We, as the voice of the people of Oyo State, are calling on the Makinde-led PDP administration to release any available report on the incident. Makinde has continually demonstrated that he does not prioritize the people. Therefore, we are issuing a seven-day ultimatum for him to provide a clear report on the bomb blast and his assistance to the affected residents.

“The African Action Congress (AAC) stands as the true representative of the people of Oyo State and Nigeria as a whole.
