Abubakar Momoh Charts Path For Regional Growth, Meets Leadership Of South East and North West Development Commissions

In a bid to strengthen regional development efforts, the Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh FNSE , engaged with key stakeholders from the newly established South East and North West Development Commissions at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja. Present at the meeting were the Managing Director/CEO of the South East Development Commission (SEDC), Mr. Mark Okoye, and the Managing Director of the North West Development Commission (NWDC), Prof. Abdullahi Shehu Ma’aji. Also in attendance were the Minister of State for Regional Development, Uba Maigari Ahmadu, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry.

Engr. Momoh reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to balanced and equitable development across all regions. He urged the commissions to align their initiatives with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, focusing on economic reforms, national security, agricultural advancement, energy sustainability, infrastructure enhancement, and social investments in education and healthcare.

Stressing the importance of transparency and accountability, the Minister emphasized strict adherence to due process and financial regulations. He encouraged the commissions to forge strong partnerships with state governments, private sector players, and development agencies to leverage resources and expertise, ensuring that their activities have a tangible impact on their regions.

Minister of State, Uba Maigari Ahmadu, also highlighted the commissions’ crucial role in driving national development, emphasizing the need for strategic oversight and coordinated efforts to align with the broader aspirations of the Nigerian people.

The engagement concluded with a shared commitment to diligent execution of development initiatives, ensuring that the commissions operate effectively to meet the needs of their respective regions and contribute meaningfully to national progress.
