It will be recalled that during a media parley in Abuja on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, Wike had claimed that no Ijaw man could have become Rivers State governor without his support, referring to Fubara.
However, speaking to the Kalabaris, Wike insisted that Fubara is not Ijaw and warned people against being misled.
“Let no one deceive you that the governor is Ijaw; he is not. You are all Ijaw—are you benefiting? Politics is about interest.
We must stand up and reject the practice where people use others and discard them, claiming it is politics. That kind of politics must end,” he stated.
Meanwhile, former Attorney-General of Akwa Ibom State and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Uwemedimo Nwoko, has weighed in on the political crisis in Rivers State, asserting that Governor Fubara has no option but to comply with the Supreme Court ruling on the matter.
Speaking with Vanguard on Friday, Nwoko described President Bola Tinubu’s directive to PANDEF leaders to urge Fubara’s compliance as unnecessary, arguing that the governor has never indicated any intention to disobey the ruling.
“For me, advising Fubara to implement the Supreme Court judgment is unnecessary because he has no choice. However, the President may be speaking as a father of the nation, demonstrating his commitment to upholding the rule of law,” Nwoko said.
