Several members of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore rallied at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday, fervently demanding the unconditional release of their president, Bello Bodejo.
Bodejo had been apprehended on January 23 at Miyetti Allah’s office in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State in connection with the establishment of a vigilante group. Since his arrest, he has been held in the custody of the Defence Intelligence Agency.
In response, the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), filed a motion ex-parte on February 5, seeking to detain Bodejo until the investigation concludes and arraignment takes place. Subsequently, Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court granted an order for Bodejo’s remand for 15 days.
Upon the expiration of the 15 days, the court granted the Federal Government an additional seven days to file charges against Bodejo. During the proceedings on February 22, the judge reiterated the seven-day deadline for the government to present charges against Bodejo.
In response, Bodejo’s legal representation filed a motion for his unconditional release, and the motion is scheduled for a hearing today.
