The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended Chima Anthony Nwigwe, who is believed to be the leader of a bank hacking syndicate, along with three accomplices: Effiong Victor Emmanuel, Mohammed Bello Mahmud (managing director of Downstone Ultimate Limited), and Daminan Ali. They are facing charges of conspiracy, unauthorized access to banking computer systems, and fraudulent withdrawals of customers’ funds.

According to a statement from the anti-graft agency, the suspects were arrested during a covert operation in Abuja based on credible intelligence regarding their alleged activities in hacking and compromising commercial banks’ databases, which resulted in fraudulent transfers and withdrawals through various digital platforms.
