At a news conference in Abuja on Wednesday, ARYA President Mr. Akoshile Mukhtar emphasized that the initiative is separate from the ongoing nationwide protests against economic hardship and poor governance. He highlighted that this peace week is part of the association’s commitment to enhancing harmony within the FCT.
Mukhtar detailed that the week will feature various activities, including a peace walk, peace talks, prayer sessions, and other events designed to build understanding and cooperation among the youth.
“These activities will offer us a chance to unite, reflect on our common goals, and reaffirm our commitment to maintaining peace in our city,” Mukhtar said. “The Week of Peace will be a strong affirmation of our dedication to a harmonious and thriving Abuja.”
He praised FCT Minister Mr. Nyesom Wike for his proactive efforts to address youth grievances and drive development that is transforming Abuja into a city of pride for Nigerians. Mukhtar noted that under Wike’s leadership, the FCT has become more inclusive and progressive.
Mukhtar acknowledged Wike’s initiatives, which, he said, have addressed immediate issues and laid the groundwork for long-term development. He commended the minister for renewing residents’ hope for a better Abuja.
Regarding the ongoing protests, Mukhtar urged Abuja’s youth to embrace peace and constructive dialogue. “Nigeria belongs to us all, and we must take responsibility for it,” he asserted. He described peace and dialogue as crucial for achieving inclusive governance.
He called on all Abuja youths, both residents and indigenous, to maintain peaceful coexistence and provide the government with reliable information to help shape policies that meet their needs. “We encourage all youths to collaborate with the government to keep Abuja a symbol of unity and progress,” Mukhtar concluded.
