The Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party has firmly reiterated that there is no leadership vacuum within the party, despite controversies arising from the recent Supreme Court ruling concerning its national chairmanship dispute.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a statement released on Wednesday by the National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, the faction clarified that the court’s decision did not nullify Julius Abure’s position as party chairman nor did it endorse Senator Nenadi Usman or her National Caretaker Committee as rightful leaders.

The clarification followed a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting convened by Usman at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, which saw attendance from key figures including Peter Obi, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, and Abia State Governor, Alex Otti.

However, the Abure-led faction rejected the gathering, labelling it unconstitutional, illegal, and its resolutions void.

The statement further asserted:

“The leadership of the Labour Party under Barrister Julius Abure stands vindicated by the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the Supreme Court’s ruling in the matter involving Senator Nenadi Usman and the Labour Party.”

It went on to say that the Usman-led group has been misrepresenting the apex court’s ruling, claiming it gave them control of the party.

“Let it be clear: the Supreme Court recognized internal party matters as the business of the party, upholding the principle of party supremacy,” the statement emphasized.

The Abure faction highlighted that its leadership emerged from a duly organized national convention held in March 2024, in line with the party constitution and the Electoral Act.

They concluded with a warning to those behind the rival meeting in Abuja:

“Any further attempts to factionalize the party will attract disciplinary actions as outlined in the Labour Party constitution.”
