Academic Crisis: ASUU Declares Indefinite Strike At University Of Jos
The Academic Staff Union of Universities chapter at the University of Jos has announced an indefinite strike over the non-payment of salaries.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The decision was made on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, following complaints from lecturers about not receiving their March salaries and the non-payment of Earned Academic Allowances.
As part of the directive, all members were instructed to suspend lectures, examinations, and official meetings with immediate effect.
According to the union’s leadership, the action was taken in line with approvals from both the national body and the local congress after members had waited without resolution.
The union stated that despite efforts and patience, the issue remained unresolved, prompting the decision to proceed with the strike.
It also noted that the delay in payment was not caused by the university’s internal administration, as the bursary department had already completed its processes.
Instead, the union pointed to the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation as being responsible for the delay in releasing the funds.
ASUU warned that continued delays could affect stability within the academic environment, adding that members were increasingly frustrated.
The union further stated that a monitoring team would be deployed to ensure strict compliance with the strike directive across the institution.
