In a candid interview, Okanlawon shared his perspective on the lack of recognition from award organizations in Nigeria. Despite this, he maintained a resilient attitude, emphasizing his focus on self-encouragement.

Reflecting on his journey, Okanlawon remarked, “I have never won any of the serious awards in Nigeria. I have been around [in the entertainment industry] for long enough that if I were the type of person to feel a certain way, I would have been like, ‘Why had I not been awarded this or that?'”

However, he conveyed a sense of self-assurance, highlighting his ability to acknowledge his own achievements. “The truth is, I can look into my mirror and congratulate myself. I have done this all my life,” he said.

While Okanlawon remains open to receiving awards if they come his way, he emphasized that external validation should not define one’s worth. “Validation shouldn’t define you,” he asserted. “If anything, my presence should validate an award, not the other way round.”
