Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has rejected claims that he reached an agreement with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to secure victory in last Saturday’s governorship election.
Adeleke, in a statement on Tuesday, said the ADC was not part of the political coalition that backed his re-election campaign either before or during the election.
The governor’s reaction followed comments attributed to the ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, who reportedly said the party worked with the Accord Party to prevent the All Progressives Congress (APC) from winning the poll.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke maintained that there was no agreement between his administration and the ADC at any stage of the election.
He attributed his victory to God and the people of Osun State, saying voters demonstrated their confidence in his administration by supporting his re-election.
The governor also expressed appreciation to the political groups and individuals who supported his campaign but specifically clarified that the ADC was not part of the alliance.
“I commend political partners who went all out to make Saturday a victory day for all Osun people. But we must clarify for the sake of history that ADC was never part of the alliance.”
Adeleke said his re-election was achieved through the support of a broad coalition of political partners who worked together to ensure victory.
Adeleke: ‘I Am Governor of All Osun People’
The governor further said that with the election now concluded, political affiliations should no longer influence the way his administration relates with residents.
He pledged to govern all residents of the state regardless of their political affiliation, religion or ethnic background.
“Now that the election is over, I am a governor of all Osun people irrespective of political groups, religion or race.”
Adeleke’s clarification effectively distanced his administration from reports of a formal electoral alliance with the ADC while acknowledging the contributions of other political partners to his successful re-election campaign.
