Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Thursday, Kachikwu claimed that members of the group openly admitted their primary objective was to regain political power.

He challenged leaders of the opposition coalition to refute his claims by publicly stating that the 2027 presidential ticket would be zoned to the South.

“This coalition was deliberately crafted to make Atiku Abubakar the presidential candidate,” Kachikwu declared. “If that’s not the case, I dare them to issue a public statement affirming that the ADC’s 2027 ticket is reserved for a Southerner. During my meeting with them, all they kept saying was that it was time to reclaim power.”

Meanwhile, Nasir El-Rufai, former Governor of Kaduna State and prominent member of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has revealed that the newly-formed opposition coalition might establish a new political party as a fallback option, should internal conflicts destabilize the ADC.

El-Rufai, a key figure in the opposition alliance, explained that the move is intended to counter any sabotage attempts by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), particularly through loyalists embedded in the ADC.

He made this known during an interview with Radio France International (RFI) Hausa Service on Wednesday night, just hours after the coalition formally adopted the ADC as its platform during a high-level event at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja.

“The alliance within the ADC is only temporary,” El-Rufai noted. “If the government stirs up trouble within the party, we are prepared to register a new political party as a backup platform.”
