The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State has defended why Governor Bala Mohammed has not yet joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), saying his delay is due to ongoing consultations.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Speaking on the issue, the state PDP Publicity Secretary, Dayyabu Chiroma, said the governor is taking time to carefully assess his political options to avoid making a wrong move. He made this known during an interview with The PUNCH.

Chiroma explained that the governor’s priority is to protect the interests of his supporters, stressing that he would not take any decision that could negatively affect them. He also maintained that the party remains united despite the uncertainty surrounding the governor’s next political step.

According to him, members are still firmly in the PDP while awaiting the outcome of a committee set up to advise on the way forward.

The situation comes amid an ongoing leadership crisis within the PDP. Governor Mohammed, alongside Seyi Makinde, had earlier backed the National Working Committee led by Tanimu Turaki. However, both the High Court and the Court of Appeal later nullified the convention that produced that leadership, prompting the party to approach the Supreme Court for a final decision.

At the same time, a separate faction of the party aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, held its own convention on March 29, 2026, where new officials were elected.

During a recent engagement with ADC leaders led by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, Governor Mohammed said he would soon decide on which political platform to join. He revealed that a committee had been established to review available options ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The governor also disclosed that attempts to align with the All Progressives Congress (APC) were unsuccessful, noting that he was not welcomed by the ruling party. He, however, hinted that the ADC remains a strong option as consultations continue.

Following these developments, key APC figures, including National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda and Abba Yusuf, paid him a visit—an indication of ongoing political realignments ahead of the next election cycle.

Over the weekend, the governor set up an exit committee to assess the implications of possibly leaving the PDP. The committee is expected to evaluate all options and recommend the best political direction for the party in Bauchi State.

Chiroma said the committee’s findings would determine whether the PDP structure in the state remains or defects to another platform.

Speaking after a stakeholders’ meeting at the Government House, Bauchi PDP Chairman, Samaila Burga, confirmed the formation of the committee. He noted that it would be chaired by Deputy Governor Auwal Jatau and include representatives from across party and government structures, with the Secretary to the State Government serving as its secretary to ensure smooth coordination.
