Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has issued a stern warning to traditional rulers, urging them to caution their subjects against recurring violence in their communities.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The warning comes in response to reports indicating that unidentified groups in conflict-prone areas are planning fresh attacks. This follows recent communal clashes that led to the loss of lives and destruction of property worth millions of naira, prompting the state government to impose a curfew in Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin-Osun towns.

Although the government temporarily relaxed the 24-hour curfew during the Eid-el-Fitr festival, Governor Adeleke made it clear that any resurgence of violence would not be tolerated.

In a statement released by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, on Monday, March 31, 2025, in Osogbo, Adeleke warned that he would not hesitate to take strict action against any traditional ruler who fails to maintain peace in their domain.

The governor stated, “Amid the Sallah celebrations, I received reports of plans for renewed conflict in Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin-Osun. Security agencies have intensified surveillance to prevent any attacks. The interrogation of key figures involved in the conflict is ongoing. Leaders of the affected towns must understand that the peace agreements they signed are serious and legally binding. There will be consequences for any breach.”

Governor Adeleke emphasized that the curfew was relaxed on humanitarian grounds, acknowledging the hardships faced by innocent residents. However, he warned that any attempt to exploit the eased curfew for violent acts would result in the full reinstatement of the 24-hour curfew.

He added, “I will not hesitate to remove from office any traditional ruler whose community witnesses renewed violence. This measure remains on the table. Traditional leaders must take responsibility and call their subjects to order. Enough is enough.”
