The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly criticized Governor Monday Okpebholo, accusing him of neglecting his duties as the state’s Chief Security Officer while enjoying the privileges of his office.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The PDP condemned the governor for allegedly shifting blame onto the suspended State Commander of the Edo State Security Corps, CP Friday Ibadin (Rtd), following the lynching of travelers in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area, on March 27, 2025. The party insists that Okpebholo, as the Chief Security Officer, must take full responsibility for the increasing violence, kidnappings, and killings under his administration.

In a statement released by Dr. Anthony Aziegbemi, Chairman of the Edo PDP Caretaker Committee, the party accused Okpebholo of frequently scapegoating his appointees to evade accountability. The statement emphasized that as the governor, Okpebholo holds the constitutional responsibility to protect lives and property within the state.

The PDP expressed concern over the escalating security challenges, including abductions, killings, and violent attacks, which have claimed over 100 lives since Okpebholo took office. The party particularly condemned the tragic lynching of 16 northerners traveling from Port Harcourt to their home state, attributing the lack of proactive measures to the governor’s leadership.

Furthermore, the PDP criticized Okpebholo’s pattern of suspending top government officials as a way to sidestep responsibility, citing recent suspensions of the Attorney General Samson Osagie, Local Government Service Commission Chairman Damian Lawani, and PSRT Head Kelly Okungbowa, among others.

The PDP urged the Federal Government, civil society organizations, and Edo residents to hold the governor accountable, emphasizing that maintaining security in the state is his primary duty.
