The group also urged the police to address the issue of cyberbullying against Mohbad’s wife, Wunmi, and their deceased child, Liam. TIB emphasized that legal actions should be taken against individuals engaged in cyberbullying.
Omolola Pedro, the Head of Gender Department at TIB, voiced the group’s dissatisfaction with the police’s handling of the case. Pedro stated, “The Nigeria Police, in a manner typical of its approach, has continued to remain silent about its ongoing investigation into the death of the Nigerian musician Mohbad.” Despite the earlier announcement of the completion of the autopsy, the police have ceased providing updates on the case.
The circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death triggered public outcry and led to the #JusticeForMohbad campaign, resulting in nationwide protests. TIB expressed concern about the prolonged delay in obtaining justice for Mohbad, highlighting the negative impact on his wife and child, who have faced cyberbullying, cyberstalking, and organized malicious campaigns.
TIB called on the Nigeria Police to expedite the release of their findings, end the delays, and protect the rights of Mohbad’s family. The group also urged the police to take action against those making threats of physical harm against the deceased singer’s wife and child. Former TIB Coordinator, Ayoyinka Oni, emphasized the importance of transparency in the investigation, questioning the absence of updates such as the toxicology report after three months and urging strict adherence to the law in this public case.
