Afeez Oyetoro Rejects ₦7.5M Betting Offer In 1999, Reveals Why He Said No

Nollywood actor, lecturer and scholar Afeez Oyetoro, popularly known as Saka, has revealed why he turned down a ₦7.5 million offer from a betting company in 1999.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Oyetoro disclosed in a recent interview that the offer was financially attractive but conflicted with his personal beliefs at the time, prompting him to reject the deal.

The actor explained that he was deeply committed to his faith and had been advising his students against activities such as betting, smoking and drinking alcohol. As a result, he was uncomfortable accepting an offer that required him to promote gambling.

Oyetoro said the decision did not end his relationship with the agent who brought the initial offer. According to the actor, the same agent later approached him with another opportunity involving a six-month contract worth ₦5 million.

He explained that the second engagement required him to travel around the country as part of the company’s activities, while the organisation took responsibility for his feeding and accommodation throughout the period.

Oyetoro said he eventually completed the six-month contract and received the agreed payment from the company.

The actor’s decision to reject the earlier ₦7.5 million offer highlights how personal convictions influenced some of the professional choices he made during the early stages of his career.

Afeez Oyetoro, born on August 20, 1963, in Iseyin Local Government Area of Oyo State, is a Nigerian comic actor, lecturer and scholar. He is widely recognised for his Saka character and has built a career spanning entertainment and academia.
