Senator Ningi had been suspended in March due to remarks he made about the 2024 budget during a BBC Hausa interview, alleging padding and unfair bias against the North.

Originally slated for three months, his suspension was cut short after 75 days when Deputy Minority Leader Senator Abba Moro initiated a reconciliation effort and expressed regret on Ningi’s behalf, leading to his early recall on May 28.

Addressing his colleagues upon his return, Ningi expressed gratitude for the opportunity to resume his legislative duties earlier than anticipated.

In his remarks, Senate President Akpabio stressed the importance of unity and a shared focus on national development, urging forgiveness and leaving past grievances behind.

He encouraged Ningi and fellow senators to collaborate constructively in tackling the nation’s myriad challenges.

Ningi’s suspension had initially sparked mixed reactions, highlighting the often tense political climate within the National Assembly. His early reinstatement marks a significant step toward fostering harmony among parliamentarians and redirecting attention to governance and legislative obligations.

Ningi expressed his appreciation, stating, “I rise with profound humility to commend the Senate, its President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, the Senate leadership, and the minority caucus for recalling me from suspension.”

He also thanked his constituents, the Governor of Bauchi State Senator Bala Mohammed, and other Nigerians for their support during his suspension period.

In response, Akpabio affirmed Ningi’s importance to the 10th Senate, welcoming him back and urging reconciliation.
