On Monday morning, gunmen attacked security operatives in Ihiala Local Government Area, resulting in the deaths of seven individuals, including police officers and two civilians.

Ejiofor condemned the tragic events, which he attributed to the actions of criminal elements, and called for immediate action from Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Ejiofor urged Governor Soludo to shift his focus from media narratives and concentrate on eliminating the criminal activities threatening the state.

“The events in Ihiala serve as a stark reminder of the siege Anambra is facing. The loss of innocent lives is deeply heartbreaking. Watching the disturbing footage, I feel a great sense of grief and outrage. My heart aches!” he said.

Ejiofor called for a change in strategy, urging Soludo to focus on dealing with the criminals who are wreaking havoc. “Anambra is in critical condition, and it is time for the governor to address the real perpetrators who are desecrating our land. These inhumane beings, who thrive on bloodshed, must be stopped,” he added.

The human rights lawyer also appealed to the citizens of Anambra to unite against the criminals. He emphasized that these criminals are residents of the state, embedded in local communities, and urged all political, religious, and community leaders to join forces to eradicate them.

“This is a call to action that requires collective strength. The security forces alone cannot handle this burden. Every citizen of Anambra must step up to help eliminate these predators who terrorize and retreat to safety,” Ejiofor stated.

He further condemned the political compromises that contribute to the situation, stating, “It is unacceptable to continue tolerating actions that put our people at risk. The value of human life and dignity must be upheld. These criminals are not strangers — they are sheltered by people within our communities.”

Ejiofor called for immediate and decisive action from the government, emphasizing, “Anambra cannot be a safe haven for these heinous acts. The time for empty words is over. It’s time to unite and fight back against these evil forces. Together, we can restore peace and security to our state.
