Anambra Launches Measles Vaccination Campaign For ChildrenAnambra State is preparing to safeguard over 1.1 million children through the 2024 integrated measles vaccination campaign aimed at reducing the disease’s impact. Mrs. Uju Onwuegbuzina, the State Health Educator at the Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency, made this announcement on Tuesday during a zonal meeting organized by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the National Orientation Agency in Enugu.
Onwuegbuzina stated that a total of 1,227,113 doses of the measles vaccine have been procured to immunize children across the 330 wards in the 21 local government areas of the state.
“The measles vaccination campaign is scheduled to take place from October 12 to 18, 2024, and will be implemented at designated health facilities as well as mobile posts in communities, churches, schools, markets, and any locations where children gather,” she said.
Dr. Hillary Ozoh, a social behavioral change specialist at the UNICEF Field Office in Enugu, emphasized the importance of media engagement to achieve the national vaccination target of 95 percent coverage. He urged journalists to report on the campaign by utilizing data-driven stories to inform and educate the public about the significance of measles vaccination.
