Life Imprisonment For Teacher Convicted Of RapeJustice Abiola Soladoye of the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court has sentenced Benjamin Ogba, a head teacher, to life imprisonment for the defilement of two seven-year-old girls. The judge determined that the prosecution had established the case beyond a reasonable doubt, meeting all legal requirements for a conviction.

In her remarks, Justice Soladoye criticized the defense witnesses for providing testimonies that were untruthful and unconvincing, labeling the convict a “serial paedophile” whose statements amounted to a “pack of lies.” She expressed her disappointment that a head teacher, expected to impart moral values, had committed such heinous acts against young girls.

“This irresponsible teacher, who is meant to guide and educate his students, has brought shame upon himself and his profession,” she declared. The judge commended the bravery of the two survivors for coming forward to testify against their assailant, emphasizing the importance of reporting sexual abuse and not allowing it to be overlooked.

She urged parents to be vigilant and report cases of sexual abuse to the appropriate authorities, stressing the need for ongoing education and awareness to combat sexual offenses against children.

“The defendant has been found guilty on two counts of defilement, and I hereby sentence him to life imprisonment for each count. These sentences will run concurrently, and his name will be added to the Sex Offences Register maintained by Lagos State,” she stated.

During the trial, the prosecution, led by Mr. Olusola Soneye, presented three witnesses, while the defense called four witnesses. The prosecutor detailed that the offenses occurred between April and May 10, 2019, at Shalom Private School, located on Oke-Ira Road in Ebutte Metta, Lagos. It was revealed that the crimes came to light when one of the girls informed her mother, leading to a police report. The offenses violated Section 137 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
