Governor Soludo presented a budget of N410 billion to the assembly members on Tuesday.
Mbachu’s objections may be linked to Governor Soludo’s campaign promise in 2021 to organize council polls.
Addressing the plenary on Wednesday, Mbachu remarked, “Examining the budget estimate presented, it is evident that there are no plans to conduct LGA elections next year.
“On page 475, the budget for the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission for this current year was N89,120,000, while the projected estimate for the upcoming year is N129,120,000.
“You can observe that there is no indication or readiness for local government elections in the coming year.
I am deeply concerned because this tier of government has suffered greatly due to the absence of local government elections.
“Local government, as the third tier of government, is the foundation of governance. Leadership and political guidance are significantly dependent on this tier of government and should be upheld accordingly.
If this can be considered, I’ll be pleased. For now, the budget can proceed to a second reading.”
