Tinubu’s Government Is For The Affluent’ — Sam Amadi Fires Fresh Criticism

The Director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thought, Sam Amadi, has accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of prioritising the interests of wealthy Nigerians and business owners over those of ordinary citizens.

Amadi made the claim during an interview on Arise News, where he argued that a government’s policies often reveal the social class whose interests it places above others.

According to him, the policies of the current administration suggest that its focus is largely on affluent entrepreneurs and the business community rather than the broader population.

Amadi also defended the concept of government subsidies, arguing that subsidies are not inherently harmful and are widely used around the world depending on the objectives they are designed to achieve.

He explained that the key issue should be determining whose welfare a subsidy is intended to protect and what specific outcome the government hopes to achieve through it.

The political analyst acknowledged concerns that Nigeria’s previous fuel subsidy system was plagued by corruption and allegedly benefited intermediaries and marketers more than ordinary Nigerians.

He, however, maintained that the problems associated with the subsidy regime predated the current administration.

Amadi argued that despite those historical challenges, the focus of the present government’s economic policies should be on improving the living conditions of poor and vulnerable Nigerians.

He ultimately maintained that the current policy direction does not appear sufficiently focused on lifting people out of poverty, insisting that the benefits of governance should extend beyond a small segment of society.
