Anthony Joshua Yet To Sign Tyson Fury Contract As Mega Fight Hangs In Balance

Anthony Joshua is yet to sign the contract for his proposed heavyweight showdown with Tyson Fury, despite Fury having already agreed to the terms on his side, British promoter Frank Warren has disclosed.

The development has raised fresh uncertainty over the highly anticipated all-British heavyweight clash, with disagreements surrounding the proposed venue and contractual arrangements reportedly delaying the finalisation of the bout.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Joshua’s existing agreement favours staging the fight in the United Kingdom, with Wembley Stadium reportedly among the venues considered. However, broadcaster Netflix and Saudi-backed promoter Sela are pushing for the blockbuster encounter to take place at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Warren explained that the conflicting agreements must be revised before the fight can officially be confirmed, leaving Joshua’s camp with outstanding contractual issues to resolve.

The veteran promoter said Fury has already completed his contractual obligations and remains willing to fight regardless of the location eventually selected.

Warren revealed that Fury signed his agreement in January when the bout was initially targeted for September. However, the proposed schedule was disrupted after Joshua was involved in an accident, forcing the plans to be pushed back.

He explained that after Joshua eventually returned to action, discussions resumed over a new date, with November subsequently considered for the encounter. However, differences between the various contracts regarding the venue and television arrangements have continued to prevent the fight from being finalised.

Warren stressed that the issue was primarily contractual, noting that the agreements currently point to different venues and that the relevant parties would need to make the necessary amendments before the much-anticipated contest could proceed.

The promoter’s comments have added another layer of uncertainty to a fight that boxing fans have been eagerly anticipating, with both camps still needing to resolve the outstanding contractual and venue arrangements before Joshua and Fury can finally meet in the ring.
