He highlighted that while Nigerians grapple with soaring food prices, politicians maintain lavish lifestyles and expensive SUVs, which contradicts their calls for public sacrifice. This discrepancy, Babarinde argued, erodes public trust.

“Leadership by example is essential,” he stated. “The significant budgets allocated for renovations and SUVs, while public officials preach patience, reveal a disconnect between those in power and the citizens they serve.”

Babarinde called for a reduction in the salaries and allowances of political officeholders, suggesting a cut to 60 percent of their current levels. He also advocated for a formal apology to Nigerians for misallocating funds and a commitment to more effective spending for national development.

Additionally, Babarinde recommended that the federal government engage with Nigerians in the diaspora. He noted that their experience and exposure could offer valuable insights and solutions for the country’s challenges.

“Leveraging the knowledge of Nigerians abroad could be beneficial for addressing domestic issues and fostering national development,” Babarinde said, as quoted by Peoples Gazette.
